Novena candles and butterflies

MySpace Graphics & MySpace Layouts
I went to Petsmart and wanted to adopt a pure white cat named Aurora, but my landlady wouldn't let me. It seems the SPCA calls the landlord up to make sure it's all right to have the cat. She thought the cat (a spayed female) would pee all over the house. It gets rather lonely not having another living thing to care for, and so I was really rather sad about not being able to get Aurora. I am seriously considering moving to an apartment where they'll let me put down a pet deposit so I can have a cat or a dog.
But I did work on my novel. I don't know what it's about yet; I seem to have random moments of inspiration and so I don't know what's going to happen yet. But I enjoy writing without having to think about things or make connections, just the joy of creating. It's going to rain soon, and I want to watch the storm. I love you all, I've made my rounds, and in two weeks I get to go on a real vacation to Minnesota to see my mother.
I bought a novena candle and it wouldn't stay lit. It kept going out, so now i've let it alone. I forgot it was dark moon time, and I suppose the universe was reminding me not to do spellwork during this time!
Midnight ramblings
Hello all! And a special hello to Heather, who recently lost her wi-fi connection when her neighbor moved. Let me tell you that your local Starbucks is offering 2 hours of free wi-fi through AT & T if you ever want to log on (or you can piggyback for free whenever you'd like at your local Starbucks!!) Hope to hear from you soon because you are SORELY missed!
I am up writing my thesis proposal (my topic finally got approved). I have books scattered everywhere, simply, everywhere. And to distract myself, when the books get to be too much, I recently bought all seven seasons of my favorite show in the whole world, The West Wing. Did you ever know that American presidents on TV and the movies are always WAY cooler and smarter and wiser than the ones we have in real life? I mean, think of Michael Douglas' president in "The American President," or my own favorite President Bartlet in The West Wing--and nothing could equal Harrison Ford's US President when he literally kicked a terrorist off his plane (always the Russians, boy do I miss the good old days there) with the words "Get OFF my airplane!"
One could make the case that these movies showcase American imperialism at its worst, and this could be true; but I like to think that the creators of the American presidents on TV and the movies long for a president with intelligence, and ethics, willing to do the right thing even if it isn't popular, one who strives to make the world a better place for virtue's sake, and not for money. Due to human nature, that ideal president isn't possible...but shows like the West Wing give us food for thought, and room to dream.
The lilies of the valley are done blooming, and now it's time for the purple iris, one of my favorite flowers. And I have been visited by two Canadian geese who persist on living on my front lawn. They are not afraid of me, and I am awed and pleased by their company.
Love to you all, and hope we can chat soon! For a laugh, I've included my favorite photo found online, from The Sixth Sense (altered just a teeny bit). I'm sure we've all felt this way from time to time:
Different stuff
So I'm sitting here in the early afternoon of a Friday, don't have to work till five, and listening to World Cafe on NPR. I've been working on my BOS, and finally got the okay to go ahead with my thesis (not telling you the topic till I've published....academic secrecy heh heh heh). I've got a million ideas running through my head of stories I could write, and constantly write down great opening first lines of books (but never seem to get past the great first lines).
So it's entering the dark moon time, and I and my cauldron are very busy eliminating habits, and being still. Working on my BOS I reserve for dark moon time, so I can learn to be still and take pride in the work that I do. I also reserve this time of coming stillness for cross stitch projects, and writing. Here are my favorite books:
1. Libba Bray's Emma Doyle Trilogy--A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, and The Sweet Far Thing
2. A Drowned Maiden's Hair--about a girl named Maude who lives in an orphanage and is adopted by three old ladies to help them with their spiritualist seances.
3. THe Time Traveler's Wife
4. Rogue States, by Noah Chomsky--about the history of American foreign policy and how it has changed the world pretty much for the worse
I tend to go outside a lot during the night, during dark moon time, sitting outside in the park under the ancient oaks, allowing excess energy to enter the earth, grounding myself.
Not much else to report, just have the feeling something is in the air, a message is coming; I can feel it. We'll see what it is.
Cheap stuff!
Well, around here, Thursday-Sunday during the summer are rummage sale days! (Some states they call them "thrift sales.") So I went with 40.00 and came home with some treasures:
A huge angel snowglobe for 2.00 that plays "Joy to the World." Perfect for my snowglobe collection.
A table that was made in 1938 that is perfect for a writing desk (and I can carry it myself!)
Books! I love rummage sales for cheap books. Found an ancient copy of David Copperfield, some old hardcover Hemingway, and a first edition Fitzgerald, all for under 1.00.
A cool old bike, with a rack in the back. Perfect for running around town.
A fantastic, large cast iron cauldron with the handle! I got it for 5.00, and it's a Lodge brand cast iron cauldron. The same cauldron would have cost me nearly 50.00! Thank you Goddess, cause I really wanted one for years!
And, the neighbors let me put a few of my things in their garage sale, so I made 10.00 today!
What's going on in your world? Happy Litha to everyone!
love to all my friends!
